Sylvan Spirit
by Maureen & Rebecca Worth
| When Rebecca Worth was preparing for her own wedding
on August 1999, she couldn’t find a suitable headpiece. “We can do better
than this,” she remembered thinking about everything she saw or tried on.
The result: she created the first in what is now her Heirloom Tiara
Collection, introduced in 2001.
Five years before, she and her mother, Maureen Worth had started a jewelry business called Sylvan Spirit based in Lexington, VA. Together they created a line of hand-sculpted clay jewelry that drew on floral and leaf shapes. Their technique has expanded to include hand-painted stoneware pottery designs and ones made of precious metal clay. The goal of the Tiara Collection was to create pieces that were artistic, elegant, and versatile, Rebecca says. Each can be worn as a headband, bun wrap or necklace.” And they’re each something special, with a story that can be passed down.” she notes. Currently the Tiara Collection is represented at the Vera Wang Bridal House in New York City and two of the designs were announced as 2002 finalists for the Saul Bell Design Award. |
